Extra is East Berkshire College's student benefits package. From a NUS Extra Card to discounted travel and free breakfast, we offer our students an exclusive range of benefits during their time at college. Here are some the benefits you can expect.

Free meals

Eligible students can benefit from free meals at college. To find out if you are eligible, please visit Student Services at our Langley or Windsor colleges for more information.

Free careers advice

If you are hoping to gain employment, change your job, move up the ladder or find part-time work to support yourself while you study, our regular job clubs will provide you with the following support:

  • access to information on local and national job vacancies
  • help with building, reviewing or focusing your CV
  • job search skills
  • support with completing applications
  • interview practice
  • psychometric testing
  • help with using online tools to search for jobs, upload your CV and promote yourself
  • a regular email alert system to notify you of job vacancies in our area.

Free Wi-Fi

East Berkshire College offers all its students free access to Wi-Fi. You can get online anywhere within the College on any Wi-Fi enabled mobile devices. For details, please visit the Reception Desk in Student Services.

Free access to iPads

Would you like to use an iPad, tablet or other state-of-the-art learning technology for your studies? Please visit the Learning Centre at our Langley or Windsor colleges for more details.

Free information, advice and guidance

Our experienced student advisers can offer you free, impartial and confidential advice and guidance on careers, courses and training. Professionally qualified, our team holds the nationally recognised Matrix accreditation for its consistently high level of service.

Through the National Careers Service, we offer a range of valuable job search activities. Designed to help individuals develop the skills needed to progress onto a course or find employment, this free service includes workshops on CV writing, job applications and interview techniques.

In addition, we now offer a new online Career Coach service, which is designed to provide you with the most current local data on wages, employment, job postings and relevant training on hundreds of potential careers.

Student advisers are available 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday at our Langley and Windsor colleges. We can also arrange to see you in the evening or at another location by arrangement. Drop in and see us or contact us to book an appointment by calling 01753 793337.

Free/Discounted Hair & Beauty treatments

Everyone needs to be pampered and with great deals from The Salon at East Berkshire College, you are in for a real treat. Our students can benefit from:

NUS - Membership

The National Union of Students or NUS as its better known promotes, defends and extends student rights. They also offer amazing student discounts with their NUS Extra Card, which offers over 160 savings on the brands you love including ASOS, Miss Selfridge, Jack Wills, Odeon cinemas, Pizza Hut and Thorpe Park. Travel Scheme - Save over 1/3 on travel

Are you under 19 years old and studying a full time course? If so, you could save at least a third on bus travel and up to 50% on train fares. East Berkshire College has teamed up with Great Western Railway (formerly First Great Western) and First Bus to offer eligible students fantastic train and bus pass schemes to help lower your travel costs.

Each pass costs students just £25 per term (or less for those from low income households who qualify for a further discount) and entitles the individual to child fares on Great Western Rail trains between Hanwell and Reading, including Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead and Marlow and First Bus routes in Berkshire and the Thames Valley, including the Green Line London coach service. For more information, please view here (www.eastberks.ac.uk/travel) or visit Student Services at our Langley or Windsor colleges.

Discounted Absolutely Fitness membership 

Do you want to keep fit and have fun without splashing out on expensive gym memberships? Our Langley College benefits from a new gym, which is managed by Absolutely Fitness. East Berkshire College students can access the gym for only £12.99 per month.

Support with the cost of childcare

If you are aged 16-19 and need help with childcare costs, you can call the Department for Education & Skills’ Care to Learn team on 0800 121 8989 or go to www.direct.gov.uk/caretolearn

The College also has a Discretionary Learner Support Fund. You can apply to this fund to help with additional costs of study (excluding course fees) such as childcare, travel, books and essential course materials.

Student Bursary

East Berkshire College offers a range of help with managing your money while you study and runs a number of financial support schemes for students from low-income households.

Some students will be eligible for reduced course fees on some courses, including those aged 16-18 and those in receipt of certain benefits. Please visit our Financial Support page for more information or visit Student Services at one of our colleges to speak to an advisor.
