The Mediterranean comes to Langley

Local residents experienced a taste of the Mediterranean, as part of a theme night at the Zest restaurant at Langley College on Thursday 25 February 2016. The College’s talented catering students took inspiration from the Mediterranean to create a delicious range of dishes including Gazpacho soup, Lamb Tagine and Panna Cotta.

Diners at the restaurant, which is open to the public for bookings, enjoyed a mouth-watering menu at a low cost. The menu which was specially devised by Level 3 catering student Ben Connell, offered guests a three-course meal for just £17.50 per person, plus a complimentary amuse bouche and petit fours.

Ben said: “This is the first time I have run a theme night at Zest, so I was quite nervous. I decided to do a Mediterranean theme as I’ve always been interested in the region and would love to travel the world working in different restaurants, in different countries.”

The stunning Zest restaurant provides a real work environment for the college’s hospitality and catering students. The Zest restaurant is open to the public and provides a range of delicious seasonal dishes, at competitive prices. All of the high quality dishes are cooked and served by the talented students, under the supervision of industry-trained staff.

Throughout the year, Zest holds a range of special theme nights to give diners the opportunity to try different dishes from around the world including classic French cooking and Caribbean cuisine. Upcoming theme nights include Thai, Scandinavian and South American cuisine.

A regular at the restaurant, diner Nina Davidson said, “The food is really lovely and the service is good too. I love coming along to the theme nights as it gives you the chance to try lots of different flavours. I’ve already booked a table at next week’s Thai evening.”

Diner Gareth Gill added, “You can’t beat the price for a three-course meal. It is great value and I have to say that was the best lamb tagine I’ve ever eaten.”

The Zest restaurant is part of East Berkshire College’s Hospitality and Catering Academy in Langley. The academy works in partnership with patrons from some of the most prestigious restaurants, contract caterers and hotels within region, to provide students with the opportunity to learn from some of the best in the business.

From professional cookery and food hygiene to front of house service, the academy offers an array of full-time and part-time courses, including apprenticeships. The College also delivers a range of short courses including wine tasting, Italian cookery and cake decorating.
