What's covered?

Our Foundation Degree (Level 5) course is designed to give students the technical, hand-on skills and knowledge required in the workplace. It develops the expertise of students already working in hospitality and tourism, or students wishing to establish a career in this growing and diverse industry.

The course units take a business management approach, to provide the skills, knowledge and experience for a wide range of industries. The work placements form a care part of the learning programme, giving participants direct employability skills alongside technical and academic learning.

• Food, Beverage and Accommodation Principles • Hospitality and Tourism Business Principles • People and Organisations • The Hospitality and Tourism Consumer • The Hospitality and Tourism Experience • Tourism Destinations

Year 2

• Human Resources for Hospitality Managers • International Travel Operations • Marketing Communications for Hospitality • Operational Finance for Hospitality and Tourism • Management of Food and Beverage Operations • Tourism Investigations • Events Planning

What do you need?

A related Level 3 qualification in Business, Hospitality and/or Travel and Tourism, and a GCSE in English and maths. Other Level 3 qualifications and professional experience will be considered.

How you are assessed

Through personal critique and display of completed units including essays, reports, presentations, observations, reflective accounts and examinations

How Long?

2 years full time. Teaching delivery over 2 days a week to enable participants to carry out suitable employment/work placement in a relevant field. Current employment can be considered as part of work placement learning requirements.

What course next?

On completion of this Foundation Degree you can progress onto the final stage of BA (Hons) Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University College of Birmingham (to be confirmed), or apply for any other top-up degree programme.

On completion students have the opportunity to progress onto the final stage of BA (Hons) Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of Birmingham, or apply for any other top-up degree programme.

Diverse career opportunities are available across the wide spectrum of the hospitality and tourism industry. Advancement for graduates in these industries can be rapid . Careers can include all stages of planning, promoting, selling and delivering experiences in sectors such as Conference and Exhibition Management, Attractions Management, Resort Management and Development, Destination Marketing and Travel Services Management.
