What's covered?

If you know somebody who has recently moved to the UK or needs help with their written and spoken English language skills, this is the course for them. The course offers a mix of classroom activities and is for those who are in the early stages of developing literacy skills in English.

This course focuses on building basic reading and writing skills through sight words and sounding out phonics for unfamiliar words. Learners work with a variety of resources including text that helps to develop individual skills and builds upon shared experiences and diversity. Learners begin to learn basic spelling strategies, form filling and study skills such as file organisation and time management. There is a strong communication focus with learners responding to and requesting basic information about living in Britain, health, shopping, work and leisure.
