What's covered?

This is a course for those who already have some knowledge of British Sign Language. It will develop skills and understanding of the differences between English and BSL, and will give an insight into deaf culture.

To enable students to acquire a basic ability to communicate with deaf people using sign language. Also to provide students with information about deaf people, the deaf community and deaf culture.

What do you need?

Introduction to sign language certificate, deaf awareness certificate, or previous signing skills.

How you are assessed

As part of the course you will be expected to take part in being videoed as evidence of learning. We encourage students to attend various deaf clubs, social events, exhibitions and workshops to enhance their signing and receptive skills - the tutor will advise on where to obtain this information.

How Long?

2 hours per week over 30 weeks or 2.5 hours per week over 18 weeks and a number of Saturday workshops
