What's covered?

This is an advanced level course which aims to develop and extend the skills the student already has in the foreign language. The course enables students to:
develop the knowledge and skills acquired at GCSE level and therefore use Spanish in a wide range of contexts gain a useful insight into another culture and reflect on various aspects of contemporary society enhance their employment prospects, facilitate foreign travel and experience the enjoyment and motivation of improving their linguistic level

The classes are conducted entirely in Spanish. This syllabus develops the four linguistic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing through the media of text books, TV, listening materials and authentic press sources. Various themes are studied through the medium of Spanish including: Aspects of Hispanic society Students may study all sub-themes in relation to any Spanish-speaking country or countries. Modern and traditional values; Cyberspace; Equal rights Artistic culture Students must study the following themes and sub-themes in relation to at least one Spanish-speaking country. Modern day idols ; Spanish regional identity; Cultural heritage Literary texts and films Students must study either one text or one film

What do you need?

There is a minimum requirement of five GCSEs at grade 4 or above including Spanish at grade 6 or above.

How you are assessed

Homework is set every week and students are expected to do regular personal research and keep up to date with Spanish current events. At the end of the year there are three exams: Unit 1: Listening, reading and writing; Unit 2: Writing; Unit 3: speaking

All students will need to buy course books which will provide much of the material for lessons and for homework. Students will be given lots of listening and speaking practice and will be taught in a relaxed and friendly environment.
