What's covered?

If you are looking to change career or improve your prospects, the hairdressing industry is vibrant, fun and fast-paced. High streets are bursting with salons catering to all tastes, and no high-quality hotel, resort or cruise ship is complete without a professional-standard hair salon.

This 12 week fast-track Level 2 City & Guilds accredited Diploma is for anyone who would like to train in the hairdressing industry and learn a variety of hairdressing techniques and skills. This course covers all aspects of basic hairdressing as whatever the economic climate, the hairdressing industry continues to expand steadily worldwide.

We will teach you all you need to know to help you achieve an industry-recognised qualification and pursue a challenging and worthwhile career in an industry with countless opportunities.

  • Health & Safety
  • Client consultation for hair services
  • Promote products and services to client in a salon
  • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
  • Cut women's hair
  • Colour and lighten hair
  • Cut men's hair
  • Plaiting and twisting
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Salon reception duties
  • Create an image based on a theme within the hair and beauty sector

All our lecturers are qualified professionals with real industry experience. You will learn in our state-of-the-art training salons, which feature the latest industry equipment and resources.

What do you need?

There are no formal entry qualifications although you will be required to take a College assessment. You will also require enthusiasm, motivation and a proven commitment to hard work, good time keeping and a desire to learn.

How you are assessed

Practical assessment takes place in the commercial salons and theory is assessed using online exams.

How Long?

The course is five days a week for 12 weeks (including a work experience hours carried in the college commercial salon and possible evening session)

What course next?

You can progress to a Diploma Level 3 in Hairdressing or Level 2 Beauty Therapy Diploma

What could this lead to?

Once you have achieved your Hairdressing Level 2 City and Guilds Diploma, you could enrol on to an apprenticeship, become a self-employed hairdresser or progress on to a Level 3 Diploma in Hairdressing to further increase your earning potential.

The hairdressing industry is fast paced and full of diverse career options for those with the right skills. The local demand for skilled hairdressers could have you working in a salon, as a technician or a junior stylist, with experience you could become a mobile stylist or open your own business The average national UK salary for a hairdresser is £25,000 per year (Source: Totaljobs.com 2017).
