Foundation Learning

Foundation Learning is the name given to the education provision up to and including Entry Level and Level 1. Whether you didn’t quite get the grades you were hoping for, have no formal qualifications or have been out of education for a while, our foundation courses will help you improve your skills, gain a qualification and progress to further study or employment.

We also offer personalised programmes for those with learning difficulties and/or disabilities that can put you on a journey towards a qualification, further study, employment/supported employment and/or independent living.

How do the courses work?

Foundation Learning

With foundation learning, your course is tailored around you. You’ll be offered a personalised learning programme that can put you on a journey towards further study or employment. The first step is to understand what you’re aiming for, so we can help you to achieve your goals.

You’ll begin by speaking to one of our friendly and highly trained advisors, to talk about your ambitions, expectations and interests. Working with you, we’ll then structure a course to help you turn these aspirations into reality. At every step, you’ll be guided and supported by personable, experienced tutors.

Your study programme will be completely personalised. Rather than following a set curriculum, you’ll only work on topics that are relevant to your goals, with all courses including a vocational element, such as motor vehicle, childcare, beauty therapy, construction, ICT or customer service skills. Our Career Launch programme starts three times a year, so you don’t have to wait until September to enrol.

Special Educational Needs

The College has earned an excellent reputation for its Personal Options Programmes. Our experienced tutors are highly trained and specialise in helping people with many different types of difficulties and/or disabilities to ensure you make the most of your time with us. Our Windsor College also offers a specialist provision for students on the autistic spectrum.

You will improve your independence and confidence, and develop your skills for employment such as good communications and responsibility. Our placement coordinator also works closely with local businesses to match our students with appropriate work placements.

In addition, we offer fantastic enterprise schemes at our Langley and Windsor colleges to help you learn new skills, build confidence and work as a team. For example, we run a business enterprise called Poppies, which is designed to help you learn transferable skills such as maths, IT, measuring, ordering and handling money.

We also deliver a Pre-Personal Options Programme which is a pre-entry level course where you will be given one-to-one support to study the LASER Personal Progress Diploma at the level most suited to your needs and abilities.

Our community courses will support you in developing your social and communication skills as well as independent living skills. Our tutors specialise in helping people with a range of learning difficulties and/or disabilities, and will ensure that you get the most out of your time with us.

Where could it take you?

A Foundation Learning course sets you up for the next phase of your career path and can improve your employability. You could progress on to a course at the next level in your chosen vocational subject or an apprenticeship.

After completion of a Pre-Personal Options course, you may progress to the Personal Options Programme or employment/supported employment.

After completing a Personal Options Programme, you can progress to further study at higher level such as our Advanced2Go course. For some, this could lead to living an independent life and for others it could lead to employment/supported employment.
