What's covered?

This course is tailored to meet the requirements of the Edexcel English Language Certificate which is the accredited version, for schools and colleges, of the International GCSE. The course is anthology based and covers ten extracts based on non-fiction texts and nine extracts based on poems and short stories. The course covers analysis of these texts as well as writing for different purposes.

What do you need?

Learners are required to complete a diagnostic assessment at level 2 prior to the start of the course as well as a sort reading and writing task. Qualifications needed to access this course are either a D grade GCSE or Level 2 Functional Skills English.

How you are assessed

The qualification is 90% exam based: Paper 1 is worth 70% of the final mark and covers two non fiction texts, one seen and one unseen, and two longer writing tasks. Paper two is worth 20% of the final mark and covers a reading question based on a poem or short story and two short writing tasks. Speaking and listening is also assessed and is worth 10% of the final mark and learners complete a group discussion, an individual presentation and a paired presentation.

How Long?

The course is 3 hours a week for 1 year.
