What's covered?

This course is for anyone working for an engineering company who would like to acquire an industry standard qualification in recognition of their status, or those who would like to progress within the industry. Mandatory Units: Health and Safety in the Engineering Workplace; Communications for Engineering Technicians; Engineering Project; Mathematics for Engineering Technicians; Electrical and Electronic Principles. Specialist Units (sample, subject to change): Electrical Installation; Engineering Design, Engineering Project; Electrical Technology.

What do you need?

Minimum of Grade C/4 in Maths and D/3 in English. GCSE Grade D/3 science is preferred, but not essential. Alternatively, a Level 2 Diploma in Engineering, with minimum C/4 in Maths. Enthusiasm for engineering will need to be demonstrated at interview.

How you are assessed

Assessment is by means of a series of set assignments, practical's and projects.

How Long?

Two years

What course next?

Successful students can progress to higher education, following completion of this course.

Mature students (Electricians or Electronic/Computer Servicing Engineers) with a good craft qualification can use this qualification to progress to HNC and HND courses by improving their mathematics and electrical/electronic principles.

Many employers in both electrical maintenance and installation and electronic support fields recognise this qualification as a prime requirement for their industries.
