What's covered?

A great hands on evening course which will 'lay the foundations' of your skill. You should be able to tackle those easier DIY jobs in the home or garden and if you want, go on to more advanced stages ready to tackle that extension!

The course objectives are: awareness of basic health & safety; accurate laying of bricks to a line; safe brick cutting techniques; awareness of brick bonding and the reasons for it; techniques of jointing; and accurate use of the spirit level. Delivery takes place in our workshop at the Langley Centre and involves building walls using lime mortar. Successful completion of this course results in the issuing of a college certificate.

What do you need?

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. It should appeal to the novice bricklayer wishing to carry out simple DIY jobs around the house or garden or as a taster for more advanced brickwork.

How you are assessed

Completion of practical tasks assessed via observation

How Long?

This course runs over ten weeks, one evening per week for three hours.

What course next?

Successful students may proceed towards an Diploma or NVQ in brickwork.

What could this lead to?

A place on a Level 1 Diploma in Bricklaying.
