Construction

With the UK’s economy getting back on track, the construction industry is growing fast and offers a vast range of job opportunities for those with the right skills. From new housing developments to major commercial projects like The Shard, construction plays a key role in reshaping our communities and our lives.

At East Berkshire College, we offer a range of full-time courses and apprenticeships in the construction trades for those just starting out in their careers. Plus, flexible part-time courses for more experienced workers, who want to pick up a new skill or keep up-to-date with industry requirements.

Why study construction with us?
You can choose from courses in bricklaying, painting and decorating, fitted interiors, plumbing, gas, carpentry, electrical or a general construction course to help you decide which area to specialise in. Wherever your aspirations lie, our state-of-the-art workshops will give you the perfect place to develop your skills and learn the latest techniques.

We have invested heavily in our Langley College and are currently upgrading the facilities in our construction department to provide you with the ultimate learning environment. You’ll have the chance to develop your skills in our brand new £5.1m STEM project and research centre, which is due for completion in August 2015. This will feature specialist labs and workshops for bricklaying, welding, carpentry, plastering, painting and decorating, electrical and plumbing.

Using the very latest industry tools and equipment used in the workplace, you’ll be building walls, constructing a roof, installing bathrooms and re-wiring circuits. There are trade competitions to enter to showcase your skills, and live demonstrations from employers.

You’ll learn through a mixture of work placements, practical exercises, classroom learning and inspiring guest speakers. Our highly experienced tutors all have direct industry knowledge, making them ideally placed to provide all the insights and advice you need throughout your course, and ensuring you are well prepared for the workplace.

Thanks to our strong links with the industry, you’ll also have the opportunity to gain valuable work experience at national, even global construction companies, as well as with respected local businesses. You’ll gain a thorough insight into a career in construction, ensuring that what you learn is wholly based around the skills and knowledge employers require.

Where could it take you?
Our courses are highly regarded and recognised throughout the industry. They are the perfect route into the construction career of your choice, or an ideal springboard to further study. In fact, you could progress from a Level 1 course right thought to a university-level qualification (Level 5).

Whether your heart is set on becoming a plumber or an electrician, a bricklayer or a quantity surveyor, a site foreman or even a contracts manager, you certainly won’t be short of options with one of our specialist construction courses in your tool box.
