The apprenticeship scheme is a great way for your business to train and develop employees with the skills and experience that you need.
Your apprentice will be employed directly by you but spend one day a week at the College - which is free for both you and your apprentice.
Below are a few questions that are often asked by employers:
What do I have to do to participate in the Apprenticeship scheme? If you are not training your own staff, we can help match you to an ideal candidate - all you have to do is let us know what you are looking for. If you are training your own staff, just give us a call.
How long do Apprenticeships last? It depends on both you and your apprentice – but normally they last between one and four years.
What’s the difference between the Apprenticeship and Advanced Apprenticeship? With an apprenticeship, the candidate will work towards an NVQ Level 2, and with an advanced apprenticeship they will study to Level 3. Both levels also take in Key/Functional Skills and in most cases a technical certificate. They both normally take about two years. The College offers almost all of its courses at both levels.
What are my responsibilities to my apprentice? You will be expected to provide proven on-the-job training, pay the apprentice while in your full-time employ and offer holiday benefits to the apprentice. In addition, you will be expected to take an active part in recruitment and the regular progress reviews.
What support will I get from the College? We will be there to help with any queries and problems throughout the training, helping you with everything from recruitment to sending reports through to assessment and accreditation. You will have a dedicated point of contact who you can ring at any time.
